SAFETY & SECURITY LIGHTINGArrange to have a couple of prominent home lights in and around your home to act as security lighting. When connected to a time switch, these can be used to great effect when the house is unattended. SafetyPaths, steps and obstructions to be negotiated at night, should be illuminated. Protection against damage, which could occur due to an electrical fault or overload, is provided by fuses or circuit breakers located on the switchboard. Additional protection against electrical shock may be provided by a residual current device which can be installed on the switchboard, incorporated in a power outlet, or plugged in as a portable unit. SecurityAdditional lighting should be provided for parked vehicles and dark areas. Security lighting can be controlled by time switches, photocell switches, proximity switches or master controlled from one or more locations within your home. ENTRANCEThe entrance to your home should give your visitors their first welcome and their first impression. It should express both your own personality and the style of the house. Position the outside light so that both the keyhole and the faces of your visitors can be seen. Inside the entrance use the lights subtly for a decorative lighting effect – perhaps highlighting or accentuating personal touches such as a picture, plant arrangement or ornament. Remember, the entrance is not a task area.
